This is the story of Kristin, David and their sweet miracle, Carter. Their story is special and I was so moved by it that I asked Kristin to tell it in her own words. “Growing up, there was one thing that I knew I always wanted to be – a Mommy. I met my husband, David, ten years ago while we were attending East Carolina University – Go Pirates! He always says that it was love at first site. A few years after we started dating, we began to discuss marriage and children. We never thought having a child would be difficult, until at age 25, I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. My treatment required a complete hysterectomy with a radical lymph node dissection followed by radiation and chemotherapy which caused my infertility. It was a devastating blow, but we were not ready to give up on having a family. Over the past five years, David and I tried many creative ways to start a family including: gestational surrogacy using our frozen embryos which was unsuccessful. After this attempt failed, we sought to adopt. We were so excited to adopt a baby girl but in a sad turn of events, she passed away during delivery. We were heart broken. After all these ups and downs along our journey and several more failed attempts at traditional surrogacy, we began to wonder if a baby would ever happen for us. Finally, in October, 2013, we learned that our amazing traditional surrogate was pregnant. On May 29, 2014 our dreams of becoming parents came true! Our little miracle baby, Carter, was born. He is everything we ever dreamed of and more. We couldn’t be happier. We hope that sharing our story will help other intended parents pursue their dreams.” Kristin has so graciously offered to share her experience and information with anyone else who may be going through a similar struggle or experience and I would be happy to put you in touch with her if you are interested. Kristin, David and Carter – taking these photographs was such a great joy and honor for Grady and I. Your family is so in love and it is so beautiful to watch. Thank you for allowing us to document your journey and thank you for sharing your story and encouraging others to pursue their dreams!
